Plus you’ll hear one of the most recognized journalists in news media share very personal experiences of medical misdiagnosis and the desire to prevent others, especially children, from having to go through similar and unnecessary real life threatening medical drama.

You will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss the most pressing issues facing leaders and attendees working on the common goal of improving diagnosis.

On behalf of the Planning Committee,

We look forward to welcoming you to SIDM’s 16th Annual Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine conference, The Future of Diagnosis: Achieving Excellence and Equity (SIDM2023), in the thriving city of Cleveland, Ohio. We are excited to come together once again after the success of last year’s conference in Minneapolis.

Our theme for SIDM2023, Achieving Excellence and Equity, will bring you the latest research and insight in identifying ways we can eliminate harm from diagnostic error through education, research, practice improvement, and patient engagement. We welcome diverse, dynamic, and leading voices during our plenary sessions starting with CNN Anchor Jake Tapper and his daughter Alice Paul Tapper, sharing personal experiences of medical misdiagnosis and the desire to prevent others. Other inspiring speakers will include Dr. Airica Steed, Chief Executive Officer & President, and Alan Nevel, SVP and Chief Equity and Community Impact Officer from The MetroHealth System in Cleveland; Dr. Michael Barone, Vice President of Competency-Based Assessment and Dr. Christopher Runyon Senior Measurement Scientist at the National Board of Medical Examiners; a panel of representative AHRQ Diagnostic Safety Centers of Excellence; our very own SIDM fellows discussing ‘Debates on Diagnosis in the Artificial Intelligence Age’ complemented by a lunch and learn with leading experts in the field of AI and diagnosis; and the always popular Clinical Problem Solving in Action this year featuring The Clinical Problem Solvers Women in Diagnosis.

As always, we also look forward to engaging with one another in a variety of workshops, poster sessions, and coffee breaks. And let’s not forget, SIDM’s 2nd Annual Awards Dinner & Fundraiser where we recognize some of the most influential individuals in the field of diagnostic quality and safety.

This year’s conference is certainly not one to miss! We look forward to collaborating with you as we seek to teach, connect, and inspire as we work together towards achieving excellence and equity in diagnosis.
