Foundational Set of Readings

Overview

This list serves as the launch of your journey to explore the diagnostic error literature base. The references below connects readers to articles that cover concepts, challenges and avenues for diagnostic improvement. The references are broken down by specific themes. While not comprehensive list of all the evidence and activity associated with diagnostic error improvement, these are foundational and current scholarly articles to guide your learning about diagnostic error and the diagnostic process – it is not meant to serve as a comprehensive list.

If available, links to the full text have been provided as well as links to the PubMed database. Some articles will only be available to subscribers.

  • The collection is primarily limited to materials published within the last 5 full years. A select list of “legacy” materials is also provided.
  • We plan to update this resource quarterly. For the most recent published articles in these areas, AHRQ PSNet is a great resource.
  • Additional resources can be found throughout www.improvediagnosis.org including the Clinical Reasoning Toolkit that includes all the major resources to examine the issue of clinical reasoning.
