The Coalition to Improve Diagnosis

ABOUT OUR COALITION

Like many aspects of medical care, diagnosis is an understandably imperfect science. Many factors contribute to making an accurate diagnosis in a timely manner. Despite the considerable commitment and expertise of all involved, the potential for delayed or inaccurate diagnoses cannot be eliminated—and can cause serious harm to patients.

Despite formidable challenges, major strides can—and must—be made to improve diagnostic accuracy and timeliness. Everyone has an important role to play, including patients, physicians, nurses, radiology and laboratory scientists, health system leaders, and others.

The Coalition to Improve Diagnosis, formed and led by the Society to Improve Diagnosis, increases awareness and actions that improve diagnosis. Members of the Coalition represent hundreds of thousands of healthcare providers and patients—and the leading health organizations and government agencies involved in patient care. Together, we work to find solutions that enhance diagnostic safety and quality, reduce harm, and ultimately, ensure better health outcomes for patients.
